Adding A Social Profile

From SoDash
(Redirected from Profile Authorisation)

In order to pull data into your SoDash workspace you need to authorise SoDash to access at least one profile for each social media platform to which you want to search and post. Normally this will mean authorising SoDash for at least your company Twitter account and company Facebook Page. You may have experienced this process before when authorising services such as Goodreads or your mobile contacts manager.

Authorising SoDash Access To A Profile

Profile authorisation panels

Allowing access to a social media profile is one of the first things you will do when setting up your SoDash workspace.

Setting Up Profile Access

  1. Log in to your SoDash workspace.
  2. Navigate to Settings, then User: [your name] in the left menu.
  3. Click on Set up authorisation in the relevant panel (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr or Google+).
  4. You will be redirected to the platform to log in and authorise SoDash.
  5. Once you have been directed back to your workspace you can choose how the profile is accessed by SoDash users (see Account Types).

Setting up Access To A Facebook Page

Most companies have a Facebook Page, rather than a profile. Company members can be made administrators of the Page, using their personal Facebook accounts. When you are authorising SoDash to access a Facebook Page you will be using the Facebook account details of a personal account, but SoDash will not have access to any of your personal Facebook data.

  1. Log in to your SoDash workspace.
  2. Havigate to Settings, then User: [your name] in the left menu.
  3. Click on Set up authorisation in the Facebook panel.
  4. You will be redirected to Facebook. Log in with profile details that have administrator rights for the company Page.
  5. You will be directed back to your workspace and can now choose which profiles/Pages can be accessed by SoDash, and what level of access workspace users have (see Account Types).
  6. Click on the desired option for each profile/Page you wish to import and then click (Use this account).
  7. Once you have done the profiles/Pages you want, you can leave the rest (it isn't necessary to select "Do not import" for pages you don't want -- this is assumed if you leave the page).

Account Types

Selecting an account type

You do not necessarily want all workspace users to have access to a profile, nor will you want SoDash to have access to your personal data. This is why you can specify the account type when you authorise any social media profile.

A company account
This account can be accessed by any workspace user. Select this option for a company profile or Page. If you are accessing the same profile on several media platforms you also have the option to link them all under one name.
A restricted account
This account will allow you to search the platform from SoDash, but no direct messages to or from the profile will be pulled into your workspace.
A private account
This account will allow you to search the platform and will also allow you to access direct messages to the profile. No other SoDash user will have access to any of this data however. The profile will be automatically linked to your SoDash account.

If you do not want a profile to be imported to your SoDash workspace, do not click on the Use this account button underneath it. By default the profile will not be imported.

Restricting Profile Access

If you want some team members to be able to post using a social media profile, but not others, you can attach the profile to a subteam.

Updating Facebook Authorisation

SoDash's authorisation to access Facebook expires every 60 days. This is to ensure that all Facebook users are aware of the third-party clients accessing their data. When you act as the Facebook profile in SoDash, you will see a notification stating that you need to update the authorisation. You or your manager will have also received an email asking you to update the authorisation.

If you do not update the authorisation SoDash will no longer have access to your Facebook data and will stop pulling messages in to your workspace. Please note that you cannot update the authorisation early, due to Facebook's restrictions.

  1. Log in to your SoDash workspace.
  2. Switch to your Facebook profile in the drop-down menu in the top right corner.
  3. Navigate to Settings, then User: [your Facebook profile].
  4. Click on Update authorisation in the Facebook panel.
  5. You will be redirected to Facebook to authorise SoDash.

Reauthorising A Profile

Sometimes your workspace connection to a social platform through the API might break and you'll need to reconnect. The connection might break for various reasons, including changing your password, a change being made to the API, or a software update. If you find you can't post to a profile that you normally can, then reauthorising your profile may help.

  1. Select the profile from the user menu in the top right corner of the page
  2. Refresh the page
  3. Navigate to Settings > User: YourSocialProfile in the main menu
  4. Click Update authorisation and follow the prompts to reauthorise the profile.
